JOHN BALDESSARI: PURE BEAUTY
The Pure Beauty exhibition brought together more than 150 artworks of Baldessari artist's career from 1962 to the present day. It chronologically intention was to portrait the early works of Baldessari and the shifts between media in his works.
For over fifty years, Baldessari has created thousands of works that demonstrate the descriptive ability of images and power of language. Baldessari's interest in language, both written and visual, raises important questions about the nature of communication and its interpretation. Baldesarri’s text and image paintings from the mid-1960s are widely recognized as among the earliest examples of conceptual art, he began to develop his painting style incorporating letters, words and photographs in his works. Later on, he was using photographs and text, or simply text on canvas.
“Six Colorful Inside Jobs.” It is a 16mm film on tape that is seen from a bird's eye perspective where an individual paints the walls and floor of a windowless room six times in six days, using each of the primary and secondary colors. The video is fast-forward to show the finished project of each day. This performance art piece is strongly visually interesting and invites the viewer to enjoy the accomplishment of the completion of the work.
His life’s work has been about creating art that communicates to people in a language they understand and that was the intention of the retrospective exhibit. To help viewers understand and admired what he had created so far. Baldessari is often credited with helping to make Los Angeles an internationally recognized center of contemporary art.
